Rene Ropas: Come Alive Tour

Morgan Carson, owner of Rene Ropas, wowed me again last month at the opening of her Come Alive Tour, an event full of fashion, poetry, dance and music.

Her events leave me brimming with an urge to create. Her style and ability to whip up an outfit on a sewing machine leaves me contemplating what I need to do to get back in touch with the artist inside.

The avant garde creations from Rene Ropas are nothing short of stunning. Not made out of normal material, but everyday objects like Neuro drink bottles and Pop Chip bags.

Not your everyday material, but where’s the fun in normal anyway?

Her ready-to-wear even stands out. It’s more fun and unique than anything you could find in a boutique.

International recording artist DeLon headlined the event and performed, integrating a fashion show with live music.

As usual the event was a hit & I continue to look forward to where the Rene Ropas line will head in the future, as well as continue to be inspired by the ever amazing Morgan Carson.

out & about – a new office and a busy month

I have hardly had a moment to really update. Between launching the new website for shoe designer Lina Zeineddine, working full time & adjusting to the new office location, and all the holiday madness, I’ve hardly had a moment to breathe.

Last weekend I attended a Blogger Brunch at Rene Ropas.

We sipped on mimosas and bloody marys and chatted. Then Morgan talked about being unstoppable and had another one of her speeches that inspire me every time she gives one. She then introduced the artist Dylan Neuwirth, who is displaying art in her shop (see photos above). And it was after the brunch that I went home, and was feeling inspired. I now have a project with Dylan starting next week and I couldn’t be more excited. When the finished product is all done, I will be sharing that.

The company I work for moved into a new office space in downtown Bellevue last week, and it has been so much fun. I love walking out to get coffee, and I can see the Seattle Skyline far off across Lake Washington. I have tried to be good & not go out everyday for lunch. But the first three days of the week we did go out, and then ordered in on Thursday.

I love walking around downtown Bellevue. I feel like I have been there a million times but only ever at Bellevue Square or the Bravern. Everything seems new, and there many restaurants and coffee shops to explore.

My desk at 4 PM on Friday.

The desk next to mine, immediately after the move last, last Friday.

This next week is going to be absolutely insane. I have meetings after work for freelance projects, Holiday parties for Point Inside & Ryan’s company, then it is off to visit my family for Christmas! This year has flown by. I can hardly believe it.

I hope everyone is having a great holiday season & that you aren’t too stressed!

Rene Ropas Dollhouse Prom Review

I believe I have said this before, but it is something I have to repeat. A year ago exactly, and no joke I mean exactly, on the 29th of September I received my first email from Morgan Carson as her graphic design intern. I worked from home in Bellingham and occasionally came down to meet with her and Lina Zeineddine. I was interning for both and trying to give their vision as a team a presence on the web. I had never seen Morgan’s workspace, there was no boutique. Five months later, I had moved to the Seattle area for a full time job, and was no longer Morgan’s intern, but I was close to the hustle and bustle and attended her collection preview at RAW Artists somewhere on Capitol Hill. A few weeks later was her full fashion show, Revive. About three months after that, she was opening her own boutique in Belltown, suddenly her company was growing, interns everywhere, and then on September 22, she had her second full fashion show of the year, the Dollhouse Prom.

In between her two shows, she has been featured in mini shows all around the Seattle area, in blogs, and in an editorial spread in Tinsel Tokyo. The woman has been busy at work, and all her hard work has resulted in a beautifully stunning show that was held at iMusic. Rene Ropas debuted the ready to wear collection Infiniti, and the fall avant garde collection, Femme Au Foyer, which was accompanied by a full choreographed performance.

Infiniti was comprised of some very workplace friendly, yet edgy pieces, and also some adorable night-on-the-town dresses. The round shapes of darker fabric on some of the pieces created an interesting shape and contrast. The cut and fold on the backs of some pieces were especially unique and weren’t immediately noticeable, so as the model passed you thought you had seen the whole look, but she would then turn and there would be a uniqueness to the shape of the back of the pants. Very classy but still edgy.

Some pieces from Infiniti:

Femme Au Foyer was a beautiful, colorful, LED treat for the eyes. The silhouettes of the hair and dresses were bold and loud. The performance that was choreographed by Renado Tozer was so well done. It was a real show that the models executed beautifully.

HelmetHead Salon did the hair, which turned out absolutely amazing.

My pictures do not do this collection justice (better camera is on my wishlist for sure !).

Edit: Gallery of More Images (I broke my own blog with too many full size images!)

If you were not in attendance at this event or watching the live stream online, you missed out on a fantastic show that only proves Morgan Carson is on her way up in the fashion industry.

Also the evening was sponsored by Shocking Goat, which provided some fabulous swag for VIPs, as well as Google Places and Novo Fogo. The evening also benefited the Mona Foundation, so it was an evening of fun and fashion for a good cause.

The venue iMusic was transformed into an AMAZING runway, with backdrop art done by Kemba Opio. Absolutely Stunning.

For much better pictures from the evening, check out the Rene Ropas Facebook Page. Images from the evening are starting to pop up.

It was such an amazingly stunning night, and it is unbelievably inspiring for me to look back to a year ago and see where Morgan was, and how far she has come.

She is unstoppable and is on her way to the top.

Rene Ropas, Rene Ropas, Rene Ropas!

This week has been littered with interacting with my lovely friend and designer, Morgan Carson, owner of Rene Ropas. I picked up my reconstructed vintage dress and my skirt from her own collection, made with custom fabric for me.

I’ve never really ever felt “girly”, and this skirt makes me feel girly and sort of Alice in Wonderland-ish. I LOVE it.

Fabric Detail Closeup

It’s much more poofy when actually worn. But its beautiful. The colors are mine, I love them, and Morgan was saying it turned out better than the first one she did, and people wanted it.

And now for the restyled 80s vintage dress. I wish I had a before and after because really there’s a HUGE difference in what this looked like before. I made it work appropriate by wearing leggings underneath.

Back detail. Zipper tape is an amazing thing.

Love my items. Can’t wait to save up some money and buy some more items. I was happy to put these in my closet, next to my dress by Sarah Yazmine. My closet has begun to grow with items by local designers and I am thrilled. I cannot wait for Lina Zeineddine to launch her shoe line and fill my closet with her shoes πŸ™‚ Support local! That’s all I can say.

Onto the Rene Ropas Press Party…

Lots of exciting thing are happening for Rene Ropas. It is so amazing what has happened in a year for Morgan Carson. I was her intern a year ago this month, and we were laughing about it because it was nothing like the experience her interns have now.

Sneak Peak at the Fall Collection

(I LOVE THIS DRESS…wishlist item πŸ™‚ already!)

Along with the sneak peak from her fall line, we also heard from the Mona Foundation, which is what the fashion show will be benefiting. Please check out their charity, they do amazing things.
The Mona Foundation Website. Their main objectives are ‘to provide quality education to all children, with a focus on raising the status of girls and women.’ We also heard that 97% of the money they generate goes to their cause. Amazing.

We also heard from and received goodies from Google Places and Shocking Goat watches, and Novo Fogo was giving out samples of their drink, which is a line of organic CachaΓ§as produced from sugarcane. The novo fogo drinks were extremely good, there’s a spiciness to the drink I’ve never tasted before, like cayenne pepper.

Shocking Goat gave out watches via Mr. Fresh, who made it rain watches.

Super excited about having one of their watches. The wristbands are interchangeable, and they’re bright colors. My boyfriend thought the watch I brought home was super sick, so I’m stoked to have one. You can buy interchangeable bands once you have a watch, at $16 a pop, not bad at all. I will probably end up buying another color band, I wanted purple, but you’re fighting a crowd, you get what you get…and I still love it.

And finally Google Places will be sponsoring a scavenger hunt for the Rene Ropas Dollhouse Prom. When I get details I will post all that, but basically you can win 2 VIP tickets to the fall fashion show on September 22, at iMusic if you participate in the Scavenger Hunt and guess locations correctly or go to the actually locations. This will be a Twiiter based campaign, so be sure to follow Rene Ropas to get all the clues. Again, I’ll be posting all the info once I get it.

Rene Ropas Grand Opening & Consultation

The Rene Ropas grand opening was in the beginning of June, and I am only updating now because I had a consultation with Morgan Carson, the designer, yesterday and wanted to include that experience in my blog, because going in to play dress up with her and let her do her thing is a whole new experience. I was her graphic design intern for a few months and have only been a viewer at the events she has been involved in.

Her boutique space is lovely, and I love the shelving units she has that store all her fabrics and some of the vintage accessories she carries. It’s like a honeycomb of goodies!

The boutique houses her couture collection as well as vintage pieces that she custom fits and styles for you. When you come in to your first visit, your consultation, she picks out vintage pieces for you, and you can pick as well, and it’s a style bar, as Morgan put it. You can also pick from her original collection.

At the opening, I fell in the love the floral pink skirt on the right, and at the consultation yesterday, we picked out fabric for my own custom skirt. I am so excited for the final piece! We will have another appointment at the boutique for the fitting.

I also picked between two vintage outfits that Morgan adjusted and styled preliminarily with pins. Unfortunately I did not get pictures of either one, but I picked an 80s style dress that at first look you would think, oh my goodness…no way! But Morgan worked her magic with pins and bunching and explained her vision. Suddenly I had visions of an incredibly stylish and cute cocktail dress. Also, looking forward to the final piece!

Some cards I designed for Morgan months ago, used as jewelry holders.

The opening party was lovely, and the consultation was even more fun with Morgan. I highly recommend contacting her and setting up an appointment to play! Her boutique is on Western Ave in Belltown and you do need an appointment.
