London Part 1

Deep down there is a part of me that is an idealist. I get a romantic notion in my head about the way something should be & make me feel. I had this idea about autumn in the United Kingdom. I’m not sure why specifically autumn, and I’m not sure why specifically the UK. For years I have felt a pull from Britain. The idealist in me likes to think I had a past life there…but it’s probably because half of my heritage is from Britain.

Anyway, after a direct flight from Seattle to Heathrow, we touched down in London, exhausted, and made our way through Heathrow and took a cab into the city. We stayed in a lovely little flat called Villa Fitzrovial, about a 5-10 minutes walk north of Oxford Street, but being jetlagged and finally getting settled at 5PM UK time, we crashed…woke up at 1 AM, crashed again, and then managed to role out of bed still feeling funny, but ready to take on the day.

The view out the back of our flat. All of the brick is so charming.

Autumn Decor {Pretty Colors & Simple Things)

It is officially fall! Hooray! I went into Michaels the other day to buy some more yarn for some crochet projects I have going. Of course I left with more than yarn because whenever I enter a craft store in September, my inner homemaker comes out and I want to turn my apartment into a Pinterest pin. So I bought some items & made a cute little centerpiece that I can swap out materials in for different holidays.

Fox(y Lady)

Over the weekend I was shopping at Nordstrom for some of my essentials & while picking out a new iPad case, my boyfriend pulled a Kate Spade iPhone case down, with a fox on it, and I had to have it. I love foxes.

Kate Spade apparently has a whole foxy fall collection that is full of cute & stylish foxy things. That, if I’m quite honest, I would have bought the whole collection had it been sitting there in front of me. Here are some of the cute foxy things from Nordstrom.

1. Foxy Necklace / 2. Foxy Wrap Ring / 3. Foxy Patterned Socks / 4. Foxy Coin Purse / 5. Foxy Patterned Wallet / 6. Foxy Clutch / 7. Foxy Watch 8. Foxy Face Socks

I hope everyone had a lovely weekend. I’m prepping for a trip that will be here oh so quickly. Lots to share then.

Autumn Child

Well ya caught me. Last week I was bitching about Halloween candy being in stores and then today while out grocery shopping, Ryan & I passed the decorations to which I exclaimed, “Ooh, I want to buy all the things Halloween!”

Ryan then promptly called me out. Whoops. I can’t help it though. Autumn is a profound season for me mentally. Perhaps because some of the most impressionable moments from my teen years were in Autumn, so a very deep nostalgia is felt when I smell the leaves & have Depeche Mode playing.

It’s a romantic season. you could say I worship it. The pulling out of boots, sweaters and scarves; the purchasing of autumn scented candles; playing Celtic music playlists I’ve carefully curated for the season; these are my rituals.

I wish I could explain the Celtic music one. I’ve always been drawn to the British Isles & their ancient past. I’ve romanticized it quite a bit in my head & though I’ve never been, I have this very clear idea of what autumn in the UK looks like. Though I’ll get to find that out for myself in a few weeks!

Summer Meltdown

Where is this year going? I feel like I’ve been saying the same thing for the past 3 years. I can’t believe it’s August already. I love August though. I can always sense a change in the air, summer is still present but I can feel autumn creeping in, and I adore it.

We  celebrated the meltdown of summer by heading to Darrington, WA last weekend, camping, and rocking out to music at Summer Meltdown Festival.  Nothing beats a small festival. I’m officially hooked again. A good group of our friends were there, there were good vibes all around, good music & river floating.

And of course, I saw Slow Magic again, and was right smack in the middle of his drum circle when he got off the stage. I touched him, I was that close. So my happy self danced back to the tent and collapsed. It was a wonderfully adventurous weekend & we made new friends who live in the Seattle area.

I can’t wait for next year!
